Q:  Is my information secure?
A:  Yes, your contact information is stored securely and is only used for the purposes of emergency alerting.  The system uses all standard security safeguards to ensure that your information is not accessible by unauthorized persons, and is not shared with any other entity or agency.

Q:  When will I get alerts?
A:  
Alerts are sent only during urgent situations that may require immediate action to stay safe.  Examples of alerts would be during tsunami warnings, evacuation notices, law enforcement activity, wildfires, missing persons, or any situation where it is essential to get information out quickly.

Q:  What if I already registered my number in the old system?

A:  If your number was previously registered in the Rapid Notify system with a valid address, it was transferred to KPB Alerts.  To ensure you receive alerts, we recommend re-registering to ensure your address is correct.  The system will not contact you twice if there are multiple entries from both systems.

Q:  What is Code Red?
A:  Code Red, a product by a company named OnSolve, is the current vendor for KPB Alerts.  This company manages the technology that actually makes the phone calls and texts messages when an alert is sent.  The terms KPB Alerts and Code Red can be used interchangably.

Q:  How will I receive alerts?
A:  Alerts are sent using telephone calls, text messages, and are posted on social media.  Notifications from the system will show the caller ID of 866-419-5000 and texts will come from 76993.  We recommend programming these numbers into your phone as KPB Alerts.

Q:  If I have a landline phone, do I have to register those numbers as well?
A:  Landline phone numbers are already registered in the system, so only cellular phone numbers need to be manually registered on this page.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough, Office of Emergency Management is offering ICS-400 training, Advanced ICS for Command & General staff.  This course provides in-depth training for people serving as command and general staff in major incidents.

The class will be held August 21 - 22, 2017 from 8:30am to 5:00pm at the KPB EOC, 253 Wilson Lane. in Soldotna.  There is no cost to attend the class, however costs for travel and per diem are the responsibility of the individual or sponsoring organization.

All participants must have the following pre-requisite courses completed at registration and must submit them with the application form:

ICS-300: Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management is pleased to present a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class in Soldotna.

All classes are located at the KPB Emergency Response Center, 253 Wilson Lane in Soldotna.  There is no cost or obligation for the course, however space is limited and minimum enrollments are required in order to conduct the course.

CERT training equips individuals to care for themselves and work as a team to care for their neighborhood, school or surrounding community until help arrives. CERT members maintain and refine their skills by participating in exercises and activities in their own communities. Additional training is available for those who wish to augment their skills and there are many volunteer opportunities for projects to improve community emergency awareness and preparedness.  All materials will be provided, and the course is ability oriented meaning people of all skill levels and physical abilities are welcome.

The Pollard subdivision and Funny River Road area (Milepost 7 to the end, including Salmon Run Drive vicinity) have evacuation advisories in effect.  This advisory is due to erratic fire behavior conditions that may trigger an evacuation notice or order within the next 12 to 24 hours.

5/25/14:  The advisories continue to be in effect.

There is no evacuation order at this time, only an advisory to be prepared.

If conditions change, an order to evacuate will be announced and instructions provided of where to go, or the warning will be canceled.

Please be prepared to leave immediately in the event an evacuation is initiated.

Residents should prepare now by having essential supplies such as medication and important papers, provisions for pets, and a plan for alternate shelter.
